Adult Groups
Bring your group of adults or students to explore the history, technology, and tradition of Old Wye Mill. Our trained docents give tours of the Mill can accommodate groups of up to 40 people, by appointment.

School Group Pre-Visit Materials
Gristmill Lesson plan, grades 4 & 5:
Colonists would travel many miles to visit the gristmill for the essential service of having their wheat or corn stone-ground. As a result, communities in colonial America developed and prospered. In this story students will examine gristmill construction, the process for grinding grain into flour, the resources needed, and the importance of the gristmill to the community.

Gristmill Technology lesson plans for grades 9-12:
A lesson that draws a connection between the innovative steps that George Washington took as “first farmer” and the wave of changes that comprised the American Industrial Revolution. Students will explore information from sources such as text, video, and drawings. Students will make interdisciplinary connections between history and science/engineering.
